Derry Harbour Square Public Artwork

Speak to All of Us

Given the human and social aspect of the subject, a figurative approach was chosen in combination with  architectural elements as well as a connecting narrative element that runs through the work. The sculpture, titled ‘Speak to All of Us’, tells the story of Derry’s shirt factory workers through time, from its beginnings in the 1830s to the present day. The proposed artwork consists of three distinct sculptural elements: (i) a linear brick wall provides an industrial/architectural setting for ii) five life-size bronze figures of factory workers of different eras that are draped and linked by (iii) a continuous sheet of metal ‘cloth’ with illuminated imagery of historic photographs.
